Mohd Zin has a lot of proof on KAS-PKR ties
KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor Umno leader Datuk Mohd Zin Mohamed said he has ample evidence to prove the close ties between Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and Konrad Adenauer-Stiftung/Foundation.
Speaking to The Mole, Mohd Zin said: “I have a lot more evidence to back my claims which I have yet to reveal.”
“And how can KAS deny their involvement with PKR when even their (KAS) officer had admitted to The Sun daily that they supported (Datuk Seri) Anwar Ibrahim?” he asked.
Mohd Zin was referring to an interview in The Sun, a local English daily, in November 2006 with the then KAS representative to Malaysia Peter Schier.
In the wide-ranging interview, Schier said that IKD (Institut Kajian Dasar - Institute of Policy Research) Anwar's think-tank, is an important partner to KAS.
Schier had then stressed that KAS had started the cooperation with IKD when Anwar was a deputy prime minister, adding that: "...when he fell out of favour and was put in jail, we did not decide to cut our relations with IKD because we believe, that if the government or leader of the government has a problem with a politician, we do not necessarily also have to have a problem with that politician."
Mohd Zin who is Barisan Nasional MP for Sepang was commenting on KAS’ denial on allegations that it has funded and pledged support to PKR.
Apart from KAS, Mohd Zin also pointed out, apart from KAS, another foreign NGO "interfering" in Malaysia's domestic affair is the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI)
This, he said was not disputed by PKR’s communication director Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad who had admitted to PKR's use of an election manual guide prepared by NDI.
In a Malay news daily report last week, Nik Nazmi who is also a Seri Setia state assemblyman said the election manual guide is merely about how to contest in fair and just election rather than using hate campaigns.
Thus Mohd Zin said he will stand by his claim and also welcomed the police investigation on this case.
Police reports were lodged by Umno Youth and more than 20 non-governmental organisations for PKR's alleged involvement with pro-Jewish groups such as KAS and NDI.
Saying that he is ever-ready to provide assistance on the matter Mohd Zin also said, “with police investigation we could reveal more truth about what is happening.”
“I am worried with foreign interference in this country. If Anwar could declare that there will be a Malaysia Spring soon, only God knows the level of their (foreign groups) involvement here,” he added.
The Unspinners had highlighted PKR’s ties with both KAS and US-based NDI in its blog post based on the news report from PKR’s official party organ, Suara Keadilan.
The ties between PKR and KAS has raised concerns among some Malaysians as one of KAS' objective is its commitment to Israel and Jews, a subject sensitive especially among the Malay Muslim population.
In another post The Unspinners published the statement made KAS chairman Bernhard Vogel who said, “One of the main goals of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation – following the spirit of Konrad Adenauer – is to promote reconciliation and understanding with Jews in Germany and around the world.”
"Those who would deny our special obligation towards the Jews and the state of Israel are historically and morally blind, and also politically blind. This statement which Adenauer made in 1966, remains as correct and relevant today as it ever was."
