Recently, A sculpture was newly erected in Guangyuan community of Guilin Road. The sculpture, is named Fu Lao (Help the Elderly People) showing an old man and two women in nude. According to the description, the woman on the old man’s left is his wife while the other is his daughter-in-law. The statue means a peaceful, harmonious coexistence in a family. The whole family care and respect for the old.”
The sculpture was posted to the forum and blog later and immediately attracted hot comments. The majority said the sculpture was too avant-garde and too shocking, but some others said art can not be taken too seriously.
Initially, the statue was to promote harmonious relationship among a family, helping each other and respecting the elderly. But most of the residents were not comfortable seeing the nude figures and hoped the authorities could put clothes on the trio.
They have also called for it to be removed. The company said they would call for a meeting with the residents to discuss if the statue would be removed
