PR's promise to return land a ploy
BELURU: Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud said the opposition parties’ promise to give back one million hectares of land for oil palm development, including native customary rights land, is only an empty promise.
He pointed out that if they were to give back the land to the landowners they would need to give out compensation of at least RM5 billion.
“Where will they get the money, and how will they pay back the investors otherwise many of the investors will go bankrupt. It is easier said than done by those who don’t understand economics,” stressed Taib, when launching the Native Customary Rights (NCR) land development for Selepin-Bok Bakong in Beluru Bakong.
Among the over 3,000 people present were his wife Puan Sri Ragad Kurdi Taib, Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Jacob Dungau Sagan, the incumbent for Marudi and Assistant Minister for Land Development and Water Supply Sylvester Entri Muran and his wife Rosnie Sulang and permanent secretary to the Minister of Land Development Datu Jaul Samion.
Taib said Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leaders are only good orators and hypocrites who give empty promises without knowing how to administer their own states such as Pulau Pinang and Selangor.
He cited Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as one classic example of a leader who is not action-oriented and only good in giving empty promises.
“When he (Anwar) was the deputy prime minister, he promised hundreds of millions of ringgit to help Sarawak but not even one sen was granted by him to Sarawak as he is not a genuine leader and should be rejected,” he said.
He added that even though Anwar had been an elected representative for about 40 years and served as a minister, including as minister of finance and deputy prime minister for more than 30 years, he not only did not help to develop Sarawak but also neglected his very own constituency, Permatang Pauh in Penang.
He said Permatang Pauh is even more backward than Betong though it is only a small area.
